Medicaid Redetermination
During the beginning of the pandemic, Medicaid agencies halted eligibility reviews to ensure that those receiving benefits would not lose them. However, soon all states will resume Medicaid eligibility reviews, which may also be referred to as Medicaid “renewal,” “redetermination,” or “recertification.”
The start dates for eligibility reviews will vary among states, with some already beginning the renewal process in February and Medicaid disenrollment effective as early as April 1st. Each state has developed its own plan for when they will resume renewal activities.
Medicaid recipients in each state will receive paperwork through the mail, and those who do not return their renewal paperwork or do not qualify for Medicaid will be removed from the program.
